ABA Therapy, or Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy, is the most recommended treatment for individuals on the autism spectrum and other developmental disorders.
While most ABA therapy programs focus on servicing children from 2-7 years old, Autism and Behavioral Center onboards clients up to 16 years old because some individuals need continued support as they age.
We have broken down our ABA therapy programs by age group. In addition to one-on-one ABA therapy, we also provide ABA Parent Training and customized groups for clients receiving ABA therapy.
Our Early Intervention Program is an intensive day time center-based ABA Therapy program for children up to 5 years old. Children in this program typically receive 12-40 hours of ABA therapy a week.
ABC staff provide children with a one-on-one, unique behavioral experience that focuses on promoting language, play and social skills. Our Early Intervention Program works to teach clients social communication and connection as well as how to develop relationships. Additionally, an emphasis is placed on decreasing behaviors that may prohibit learning.
Parents play an active role in the success of this program. As a result, families meet with their child’s BCBA on a consistent basis for ABA Parent Training. This allows them to further their learning and stay abreast of their children’s progress. Active parent participation in implementing ABA therapy at home leads to more success and generalization of skills in the natural environment, where the child will use these skills the most!
This program aims to provide opportunities to teach the skills necessary for success and transition into an educational setting. We strive to work collaboratively with all the child’s service providers to promote the best outcome.
This program continues to build on the social, emotional and communication skills taught in the Early Intervention program. Using a perfect blend of Discrete trial teaching, natural environment teaching, and direct instruction, we continue to build language and social skills while fostering the pivotal skills needed to be successful in a school environment.
Children will learn to focus in a group environment and attend for longer periods of time. They will experience opportunities to foster the use of their language in a social context. Some children may be eligible to participate in our Direct Instruction groups, and later our Social Skills Readiness Group to put them on the pathway for school success.
The goal of any good ABA program is to provide opportunities to help the children generalize skills to the natural environment. Our mock classroom is made for just this purpose. Parents continue to play a vital role and parent participation is required. ABA parent training in this program ensures that the skills carry over from the clinic and into other areas of the child’s life. We also work collaboratively with school personnel, when possible, to create a customized therapeutic experience that will bridge the gap from clinic to school.
Some clients transition from the School Readiness Program to the Life Skills Program, providing therapy options for clients who need it to continue services into their advanced teen years.
While some people believe ABA programs are only for early learners, some individuals need continued support throughout their academic careers. Our Life Skills Program works in collaboration with parents and schools to focus on functional language, social skills, pre-vocational, and life skills.
This one-of-a-kind center-based model operates during the day Monday-Friday. Children and teens ages 11-and up participate each week in discrete trials, Natural Environment Training and structured groups to address their unique learning needs. Children in this program are given opportunities to explore their interests and practice tasks of daily living such as grocery shopping, cooking, or other life skills. Children that are not quite ready to participate in prevocational skills at this level, learn to be consumers.
Our unique mock classroom environment promotes generalization to the school setting. As with all our ABA programs, active parent training and participation with the child’s BCBA is a must to ensure follow-through into the home and community environments.
Enrollees of this program often receive a combination of school and clinic-based services. Each ABA program is custom fit to meet the individual and family’s current needs and can grow with them. We also offer a variety of services for families who choose a different educational path for their children.
Parent involvement is a requirement to participate in any Autism and Behavioral Center's ABA programs. A child’s progress is most valuable when they learn to generalize their new skills to their natural environment. This means it is critical parents play an active role to best understand how to carry over therapy into their home and community. Parent training is expected to take place at least 1 hour a week unless clinical exceptions are made.
Parent Training takes several forms. It most-commonly involves interactions between the parents and the child’s BCBA. Parents learn what their child is working on in therapy, and how to best generalize those skills to the home. They will also learn the foundational concepts of ABA therapy to best understand why we do what we do.
When parents have a solid understanding in the application of the principles of behavior analysis, they will understand the benefits of our therapy. This creates a collaborative a team with a shared mission for the child.
